Glutamine is an amino acid that is abundant in muscle tissue, the digestive tract, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas and liver and is also important for the immune system. It is involved in the production of muscle tissue, it acts as fuel for the intestinal cells, helps in glycogen synthesis and supports the immune system during periods of stress. Because of its role in fueling the enterocytes within the intestines, not surprisingly, glutamine also supports gut wall integrity.
