Inositol is a sugar alcohol which occurs in nature in its cis form which is also known as myo-inositol. Inositol plays a role in the structure of secondary messengers and is also a key part of phosphatidylinositol and IP3.

In the body, inositol is involved in nerve transmission for cell to cell communication and acts as an indirect source supply of glucuronic acid required for liver detoxification.
